Planning a weekend trip to the coast? Kelva Beach (also spelled Kelwa Beach) is one of the most accessible and peaceful beach destinations near Mumbai and Thane. Whether you prefer a scenic drive down the highway or a fast, budget-friendly local train ride, knowing how to reach Kelva Beach makes your journey smooth and stress-free. Here is your complete travel guide to reaching Kelva Beach and Raj Resort.

Option 1: Traveling by Local or Express Train (Most Popular & Affordable)

Taking the train via the Western Railway line is the fastest and most convenient way to avoid highway traffic.

  • Boarding Point: You can catch a Dahanu Road bound local train or express train from major stations like Churchgate, Dadar, Borivali, or Virar.
  • Destination Station: Get down at Kelwa Road Railway Station (or Palghar Station for express trains).
  • Last-Mile Connectivity: From Kelwa Road station, Kelva Beach is located approximately 5 km away. Sharing auto-rickshaws, private 8-seater autos, and local ST buses are readily available right outside the station to drop you directly at Raj Resort.

Option 2: Driving by Car or Bike via NH48 (Scenic Road Trip)

If you love road trips, driving to Kelva Beach is straightforward and scenic.

  • From Mumbai/Thane: Take the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH48) heading towards Gujarat.
  • Turn-Off Point: Continue straight past Virar and Manor. Take the left turn at Varai Phata towards Safale/Kelwa, or take the Palghar turn-off depending on your starting location.
  • Drive Duration: The distance is around 75 km to 90 km from Western Mumbai suburbs and Thane, taking roughly 2 to 2.5 hours depending on morning traffic.
  • Parking at Raj Resort: Drive straight to Raj Resort, where we offer secure on-site parking for all resident and day-picnic guests.

Option 3: Travel by MSRTC State Transport Bus

MSRTC operates regular bus services connecting Palghar and Kelwa village with major bus depots in Thane, Bhiwandi, and Mumbai. You can board a bus heading to Palghar depot and take a local connecting bus or auto directly to Kelva Beach.

Pro-Tips for a Smooth Journey

  • Best Time to Start: Start early in the morning (around 7:00 AM) to enjoy smooth traffic on NH48 and arrive at the resort in time for a fresh breakfast.
  • Weekend Train Schedules: Check the Western Railway train timetable for Dahanu locals, which run at regular intervals throughout the day.

Once you arrive at Kelva, Raj Resort is conveniently situated just minutes from the main shore. Have safe travels and we look forward to welcoming you!
